My love for making beaded jewlery started many years ago, when as a teenager back in the 60's my friends and I would frequent the bead shops in Ann Arbor. I attended the University of Michigan where I explored many different mediums, including painting, weaving, metalsmithing and jewlery design. Five years ago I rediscovered a medium that allows me to combine everything I love about the creative arts. Color and texture are at my fingertips as I weave and sew glass beads into pieces of wearable art.
Over my lifetime, I've had the opportunity to take classes and study with some wonderful artists, who have encouraged and influenced me in so many ways. I have had many different "careers" as well. Picture framer, interior designer, waitress, medical assistant, all are jobs I've taken on to help support my family, but one thing remains constant through my life and that is I am an artist. I need to express myself through the visual arts. For now its my jewelry, but whenI grow old it may be painting, or clothing design, or sculpture. As long as its fun and fulfills me, then its worth doing.
Right now, in this year of 2008, I share a home with my husband ( a wonderful abstract painter who I met in art school 30 years ago) and our two howling dogs. We live in Dexter, Michigan to be near our kids and granddaughters. Our home away from home is Taos, New Mexico where we spent a few years of great adventures and will someday return.
I hope you enjoy my website.
Thanks for looking,
Nancy
